What is an Acu-Lounge
Acu-Lounge is the name of the space that I have created to offer an alternative setting for receiving acupuncture treatments. Acu- is for acupuncture; lounge is for the chair and the room. In the acu-lounge clients sit in zero gravity recliners. The zero gravity position of the recliners simulates the same position that NASA developed to relieve the body of the stress of take-off. Our clinic’s acu-lounge is conveniently located in Downtown Asheville with plenty of parking easing the stress of travel before deep relaxation is experienced during the session.
The zero gravity chairs have multiple health benefits. The position improves circulation by allowing the feet and the head to rest slightly above the heart. The position decompresses the spine and allows for neck, shoulder and spine realignment. The enhanced circulation of the position minimizes stress on the heart which keeps blood pressure and heart rate constant. The position is particularly suited for relieving pressure on the lower spine which relieves low back pain and tension. The zero gravity position allows the lungs to function at their optimal capacity by maximizing the expansion of the diaphragm. All of these benefits reduce overall stress.
Acu-lounge treatments allow for a therapeutic resting position to be paired with the relaxation, reorganization, and repair that is stimulated when acupuncture needles are placed. Having the correct acupuncture diagnosis is essential for getting the best acupuncture needle placement. This why acu-lounge treatments are only incorporated into an established treatment plan. After a full private room treatment for a new or existing patient in which the acupuncturist and the client are able to discuss treatment goals, establish a diagnosis, and create an herbal medicine and home care plan, it may be determined that acu-lounge treatments are appropriate.
The lounge is not a private setting. There can be as many as four other people receiving acupuncture at the same time. This is reflective of clinics in the far east where it is common for multiple people to receive acupuncture in the same room. The shared space has the signature of a healing space and when multiple people are receiving treatment, the healing potential is amplified. Having multiple people in one space allows for the acupuncturist to move efficiently from one client to the next to place the needles. This reduces the cost of the therapy, making it more accessible. There is no consultation with the acupuncturist in the acu-lounge. The diagnosis and treatment plan is already established, and the treatment can begin as soon as the client is comfortably positioned. There are no clothes removed. The client must wear loose fitting clothes that can easily be rolled up to stay above the elbows and knees. All the acupuncture points needed are placed below the elbows and knees, as well as inthe head and neck. Some people fall into relaxation so quickly that they are soon asleep. This is always a good sign that the body is taking maximal advantage of the opportunity the reorganize and repair.
